Melanie's Priorities

My Priorities

A Living Wage Town

Start with the biggest employers in town and seek agreement on paying the Living Wage and work towards Grimsby becoming a Living Wage Town

100 Pledges for 100 Youth Jobs

I will go out into the town and speak directly to business owners and try to achieve 100 pledges of job offers, training places and apprenticeships for young people in Grimsby

Caring Communities

Develop a ‘no loneliness’ strategy for all over the age of 75. Ensure at least one contact per week for those identified as isolated.

Right Homes

Establish a community housing scheme. Mentor local trainees and apprentices to refurbish old properties and assist in building new appropriate and affordable housing.

Grimsby Employment Charter

An initiative which aims to encourage both private and public sector employers to sign up to the best possible working conditions for their workforce.

A Right to Work

The right to a job will reduce levels of unemployment and raise the incomes of poorer households. In turn this will ease the burden on the tax and benefit system. Where there are no jobs, the government must create opportunities.
