Stop the split!

grimsby_split.jpgThis is our last chance to let the BCE (Boundary Commission for England) know that we are unhappy with their proposals. If their plans go ahead our town will be split! Great Grimsby as we know it will be no more; after hundreds of years of parliamentary representation. Instead we will be torn apart, and added to bigger rural constituencies. All that will be left will be the name. Our representation will be reduced. Our voices less heard. Please sign our petition calling on the BCE not to go ahead with the proposals.

We disagree with the Boundary Commission's proposal to split the historic seat of Great Grimsby. We call on the Boundary Commission NOT to go ahead with the proposed boundary change.

We are a proud town, we support one another, we do not deserve to be torn apart to meet the requirements of a mathematical conundrum.

Nothing short of gerrymandering.

We need to become more democratic, but this boundary change fails to achieve this.

As a councillor, I still support the decision of North East Lincolnshire Council to ask for Greater Grimsby to be treated as an exception and to include the closely allied Cleethorpes ward of Sidney Sussex. This motion, passed at Full Council, was clearly put forward in the Council’s first stage response. As a democratically debated and approved local statement it was given too little weight in your current report and should be revisited. It is well know that decisions on constituency boundaries in the Humberside were made sequentially by the Commission working North to South and West to East. At the tail end of this sequence, narrowly and artificially constrained by the East Midlands boundary, North East Lincolnshire is deserving of special status when it comes to the strict rules. In any case it would be interesting to see whether current census returns tip the eight wards of .Grimsby plus the ninth, Sidney Sussex, over the 75000 mark.

I am appalled that the Boundary Committee has completely ignored all the comments against their decision to split the constituency of Grimsby.

Why change a cohesive constituency into 2 disparate entities?? Makes no sense to me.
